## Image scope and modifications

The [pinned official contribution guide](https://invent.kde.org/documentation/docs-krita-org/-/raw/87d1c035f7db9696eae7badfe9ac38a7eb6bf984/contributors_manual/krita_manual_readme.rst) explicitly applies the manual's license to submitted images. Its spelling “GDPL” is retained in evidence, not treated as a different license: the repository LICENSE and document identify GFDL. None of these four source placements carries a different CC license caption. This is documentation-asset licensing, not a software GPL or MIT inference.

All four originals are preserved unchanged in the separately retained offline review package. Three publication copies are byte-identical. For brushengine_smudge_radius.png, the publication derivative removes only the tEXt keyword Software with value www.inkscape.org. No copyright, author, licensing, color, or image data was removed. The remaining complete chunks including CRCs are byte-identical. Full hashes and verification remain in the separately retained offline provenance-v3.json review package; it is not a public article asset.

The cover is an original AI-generated conceptual paint illustration made using god-tibo-imagen with the existing Codex backend. It is not Krita output, a screenshot, a benchmark, or an upstream illustration. No manual images were used as generation references. A centered crop from 1672×941 to 1664×936 yields the 16:9 publication PNG without upscaling. It remains outside references/ and is not one of the four credited source images. No separate human-authored copyright claim is made for the AI-generated pixels; the cover is included in this licensed document package to the extent rights are held.

## History

- Original: Color Smudge Brush Engine, Krita Manual; authors listed above; publisher Krita Manual contributors. Source state pinned to documentation commit 87d1c035f7db9696eae7badfe9ac38a7eb6bf984, committed 2026-08-31T14:08:07Z. This is a source-state date, not image creation or first publication date. Original public manual: https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_manual/brushes/brush_engines/color_smudge_engine.html.
- Modified document: Krita Color Smudge changes what brush spacing means, 2026; AI-assisted editorial additions published by Fodev JEO. Changes: new mode-first decision analysis, original comparison table, unexecuted test proposal, selected source illustrations, attribution, this history, and a separately identified conceptual cover. One source image receives the metadata-only change described above. No Krita runtime trial was performed.

The [complete original RST source](color-smudge-engine-source.rst) is included without alteration, preserving its authorship and license metadata. Its upstream image paths are source references, not promises that every image from the original manual has been bundled. The four included images have their own pinned original URLs in article captions.

The transparent modified article is available as [public Markdown source](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/akillness/akillness.github.io/master/_posts/2026-10-07-krita-color-smudge-spacing-modes.md). The article links to all five included images, the full license, this notice and the preserved original source.
